Here are some tips and tricks to help you keep on track with as smooth a ride as possible – the benefit of learning from others.
-When baking with yeast, use wooden, silicone, or plastic for stirring. Avoid metal bowls too.
-When baking with spelt flour be careful not to overknead the dough. If anything, underknead it. Overkneading will result in tough, crumbly/dense bread products.
-If you have diabetes or insulin issues, avoid agave nectar and agave products.
-DON”T use Stevia sweeteners. Research has proven that Stevia is toxic to humans. Stick with Splenda.
-Read labels. I can’t stress this enough. If in doubt, the list of ingredients on a product can tell you whether you can eat its contents. If it has sugars or starches added, put it back on the shelf.
-Water drinking 101: take your current weight, divide that number by 2, and that is how many ounces of water you should consume in a day to keep your body running properly. Drinking water in excess of the required amount can cause fat flushing and added weight loss. (example: weight 120 divide by 2 = 60. 60 oz of water per day.)
-Deprivation can lead to binge eating, so remember to treat yourself now and again.
-Craving something sweet? Keep sugar-free low-fat fudgecicles in the freezer, they hit the spot in a pinch.
-Beware of sugar-free hard candy!!! Maltitol (the main sweetening agent in most sugar-free candy) will cause the lovely side effects of intestinal discomfort, severe gas, bloating, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea in over 20% of people who ingest it. Good times!
